Flexible packaging producer Prolamina Corp. has completed equipment installation and office space at its Neenah, Wis., operation, the firm announced Sept. 20.
The Neenah facility is Prolamina’s third, giving it a footprint in the U.S. Midwest. Its other plants are in Wesfield, Mass., where it is headquartered, and in Terrebonne, Quebec, near Montreal. Officials did not disclose the cost of setting up the 250,000-square-foot Neenah operation.
Prolamina began production in Neenah in August 2011. Some of its initial equipment came from an asset and customer list acquisition from Packaging Dynamics Corp. of Kaukauna, Wis. The purchase included extrusion laminating, ten-color printing and converting equipment. The site’s equipment list now includes Black Clawson tandem extrusion laminators, flexographic presses, high definition printing, laser scoring, precision slitting and rewinding machinery.
Prolamina makes simple and complex, multilayer film constructions for food, medical and specialty markets using polyethylene and polypropylene films.
Prolamina built the Neenah facility as the hub for its food packaging business, CEO Greg Tucker said in a news release. The Neenah plant employs about 100 and runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Prolamina acquired the Westfield plant, formerly Jen-Coat, in August 2010 and the Terrebonne facility, formerly Excel Pac, in March 2011.
Plastics News estimates Prolamina’s film and sheet sales at about $280 million last year. It is owned by Westfield Capital Management LLC of New York. | |
