Medical device manufacturer Micropulse Inc. announced a $14.3 million expansion at its facility in Columbia City, Ind.
The money will go toward renovating its 100,000 square-foot facility, including adding equipment and approximately 60,000 square feet of space. Company CFO Brian Moore told Plastics News that the company plans to occupy the space starting in 2015, and it will house both additional space for medical device manufacturing and administrative support.
Moore said the space will support the company’s implant and sterilization case manufacturing.
“We’re a contract manufacturer and we continue to have solid growth with good customers and a great workforce,” he said.
That workforce will also be growing with the expansion. The company expects to hire approximately 100 workers, adding to its current workforce of 240 employees.
The expansion will be aided by the Indiana Economic Development Corp., which offered Micropulse up to $700,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $50,000 in training grants. The company must hire workers in Indiana before they can claim the credits, the state said. Whitley County, home of the facility, also approved additional tax abatements for the company.
Micropulse develops and manufactures orthopedic instruments, implants and sterilization cases and trays. The company was founded by Brian Emerick in 1988 in his garage.
